Especially now in the fall, it is not uncommon for a male angle spider (also known as a house spider) with a wingspan of up to 10 centimeters to cross your path at home. This is because the males are now looking for females that are ready to mate. To do this, they leave their familiar surroundings and enter houses and apartments.
Angle spiders are harmless to humans and also bring great benefits. A spider bite is as painful as the sting of a small needle. Any redness or swelling will disappear after a few hours. But the spider has to feel very threatened to bite. For example, if you grab it, step on it or push it hard. If you can come to terms with the angle spider as a roommate, you will have a mostly very inconspicuous insect catcher at home. This is because the animals spend most of their time in their hiding places and are very shy when it comes to meeting humans. The spider’s diet includes flies, silverfish, flour moths and woodlice.
However, if you want to prevent angle spiders from entering your home, you can use various scents or fly screens. Fragrances such as peppermint oil, lemon juice or eucalyptus oil sprayed on the potential entry points are intended to prevent spiders from gaining access. Laying out chestnuts, lemon slices and orange peel, for example, should also keep the spiders away.
If you want to protect your premises permanently and reliably from uninvited spiders, you can also achieve this with professional fly screen solutions. Find out more about how to protect doors, windows and light wells with fly screens:
