The end of February / beginning of March marks the start of another challenging time for pollen allergy sufferers.
The pollen season starts with the so-called early bloomers. These include hazel, alder and birch. These trees are the first to send their pollen on its journey and thus also into our living spaces. The grass pollen flight only reaches its peak in May, June and July.
If you want to protect your living space from pollen, you can achieve this with special pollen protection fabrics. These pollen protection fabrics are incorporated into custom-made fly screen elements and can therefore be attached to almost any door or window opening.
Pollen protection fabrics, which also provide reliable protection against insects and arachnids, are usually made of 100% very finely woven polyester and filter around 90% of airborne pollen out of the air. This significant reduction in allergens can greatly alleviate the symptoms of pollen allergy sufferers. This special type of fabric is relatively dense compared to insect screen/fly screen fabrics. This means that in addition to the pollen, around 50% of the air and light is also retained. In contrast, fly screen fabrics without a pollen filter function only retain approx. 25% of light and air.
When using pollen protection fabrics, it must be borne in mind that pollen can also enter indoor rooms via clothing worn and hair. Rooms protected with pollen protection fabric should therefore not be entered with street clothes and hair should be rinsed out before going to bed if you want indoor air that is as free of pollen as possible.
Most of the fabric cleaning is done by rain, which washes out the particles in the fabric. If rain showers are not sufficient for cleaning, it is advisable to wipe the fabrics with soft damp cloths (no cleaning agents!). Dirt and pollen particles can also be blown out of the fabric with compressed air cleaning sprays, such as those used for cleaning PC keyboards.
